Sydney-based artist Lucas Davidson engages in a process of both forging and fracturing images of the self. Working with photography, video, sculpture and installation, Davidson’s works hinge on the interconnection between self, surface and site. By making his surfaces both self-referential and mutable, Davidson’s interplay between perception and cognition encourages the viewer to consider themselves not as an uninterrupted whole but as pieces within the broader context of their surroundings. In turn, Davidson aims to highlight the highly constructed nature of identity as something that is in a continual process of change.
