In the Italian Pavilion, Giacomo Costa presents four monumental works across a 20 metre wall, invited to respond to the theme ‘Resilient Community’. Giacomo depicts his signature metropolises affected by the elements – floods for water, burning for fire, desertification for earth, and storms for air. There is both a sense of dramatic environmental collapse and human survival against the odds. It is confronting to stand with these large scale paintings that provoke moments of disquieting suspension, as if waiting in front of a prelude that we are not able to understand. Exhibition website.
