Lottie Consalvo’s ‘In and out of day and night’ is an extension of her recent body of work ‘When I look carefully / I see the nazuna blooming / By the hedge!’. These painting wrestle with the weight of nature on the human psyche and the weight of the human psyche on nature. She asks us, “Why don’t we walk in the bush at night? Why don’t we swim out on the seas in the dark?” In these abstract paintings she unravels our fear that these places might engulf us.
Consalvo’s works are held in important collections such as the Maitland Art Gallery, New Castle Art Gallery and Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie. Her recent solo exhibitions include; ‘Somewhere Else’, Maitland Regional Art Gallery (2019); ‘I Tried To Make A Horizon For You’, Casula Powerhouse (2019); ‘In The Remembering’, Heide Museum of Modern Art, (2018).
