ISIDRO BLASCO

‘Brett Whiteley Chair III’ was exhibited in the 2013 solo show ‘Sydney Interiors‘. The interiors in this project belong to architects, artists, musicians, designers, dancers, writers, and radio personalities. More than 30 Sydney-siders were featured, some of them well-known household names. This work focuses on a simple chair in the studio of celebrated artist Brett Whiteley, using Blasco’s signature technique of combining multiple photographic views in elliptical succession to produce an object that is at once recognisable and entirely new.

I am very much interested in conveying the feeling of each interior, from the distribution of objects in the space, to the colours of the walls and the dispersion of light throughout the rooms. In particular, how all of the different elements reflect the personality of the individual who lives in the space. The ultimate goal of the project is to re-present each space in such a way that it becomes a portrait of the Sydney-sider.

Works by Isidro Blasco are held in major collections across the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Chicago Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Baltimore Museum of Art.
