“Touch is a quietly pervasive presence within the painting” says Natasha Walsh of her self-portrait selected as a finalist in this year’s Archibald Prize. This sense of touch is apparent not only in the way that the figure of the artist reaches out to the viewer, but also in the way that Walsh has physically pushed pigments of oil across the copper surface with her fingers during its making. Walsh’s self-portraits were also selected as finalists in the 2016 and 2017 Archibald Prizes. This year’s Prize will open on Saturday 12.05. and continue until 09.09.18.
