MARION BORGELT ‘Morpheus Macau’ A site specific installation for Morpheus Hotel, Macau, China

Commissioned in March 2018, Marion Borgelt has completed designs for 52 lobbies of the spectacular and highly original Morpheus Hotel, an ingeniously designed building by the late, renowned architect Zaha Hadid and her firm.

Based on 3 series of Borgelt’s painting series — Mirror Strobe Suite, Bloodlight Star and Lunar Tango — Marion has crafted images for large-scale digital face-mounted photographs that represent glowing colour and movement overlaid with transparent, luminous orbs and beams of light. Startling and effervescent in character, these five metre long images introduce a visual dynamism through the use of optical rhythms and floating, flashing fields of light set against haloes of smoky stardust.
