JON CATTAPAN, LOTTIE CONSALVO AND PHILIP WOLFHAGEN Featured in ‘Australia’s Top 100 Collectable Artists’

September 13, 2024

Jon Cattapan, Lottie Consalvo, and Philip Wolfhagen have been featured in ‘Australia’s Top 100 Collectable Artists’ for 2023. The list surveys the current contemporary art scene for stand-out artists whose work has been showcased prominently in recent exhibitions, award listings, publications and across high-profile media platforms that has earned them critical acclaim.

The artists have been selected from those living, working and exhibiting in Australia by a committee of working artists, academics, commentators, gallerists and art collectors. The collection hopes to “bring into the light the best Australian painters, photographers and sculptors making art in 2023.”

Jon Cattapan is an extensively exhibited visual artist who lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. He first began exhibiting in 1979 and his works deal primarily with ways of representing urban topographies and narratives. He is known for panoramic layered city vistas and figurative groupings and has a long held preoccupation for the way human beings negotiate territories.

Lottie Consalvo’s works explore the human psyche, imagination, dreams, memory and their place in the real. With a practice traversing painting, performance, video, and sculpture, she looks at the physicality of the overwhelming presence of thought and the impact the mind has on all living things. She parallels these natural phenomena of the mind by investigating the human connection to nature, desire, longing, loss and the ungraspable.

Philip Wolfhagen is one of Australia’s pre-eminent contemporary landscape painters and creates images that are mysterious and sombre in mood, produced with thickly applied paint. They are inspired by the atmospheric landscape of northern Tasmania and the emotive qualities of light and weather.
