EM INGRAM-SHUTE AND VEDIKA RAMPAL Finalists in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award at Campbelltown Arts Centre

September 27, 2023

Em Ingram-Shute and Vedika Rampal have been selected as finalists in the 2023 Fisher’s Ghost Art Award for their respective works ‘X-rated Delusion’ and ‘Forms of a Fermenting Fantasy’! The artists’ work will be shown as part of the finalist exhibition which ends on 8th December, coinciding with the annual Festival of Fisher’s Ghost.

Vedika Rampal’s ‘Forms of a Fermenting Fantasy’ is currently in exhibition at the Dominik Mersch Gallery til October 7th. Vedika Rampal’s practice uses excavation as a dual-methodology to both form and unearth narratives from the past, within the present. Within her work linearity loses its precarious foothold and slides inwards, coalescing, rendering all temporalities as simultaneous. This exhibition displays images taken by Rampal at a site visit to the Ajanta Caves (2 BCE—6th CE) located in Maharashtra, India. It is here that she began her process of unlearning imperialism by re-learning her own history.

Em Ingram- Shute is a process-driven sculptor who investigates psychic and political themes through intuitive material combinations. A Surrealist at heart, she is interested in the way that materials hold memory and come together subconsciously. Her works are playful as- semblages of felt, steel, rubber and concrete that elevate the mundane. Through both found and fabricated objects, Ingram-Shute taps into the tensions between presence and absence. In her work, presence is the molecular nature of the object in the here and now, whereas absence is the intergenerational memories held within.
