VEDIKA RAMPAL ‘Matters of Time: Contemporary Metal Practices’ at UNSW Galleries

July 23, 2025

Vedika Rampal will be featured in the group show ‘Matters of Time: Contemporary Metal Practices’ at UNSW Galleries from 29.08. – 16.11.25. Featuring new commissions and recent works by Australian artists and designers, the exhibition examines the enduring role of metal in contemporary practice.

Vedika’s contribution to ‘Matters of Time’ reflects her ongoing investigation into materiality, temporality, and the politics of display. Her multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, textiles, photography, and text, often using materials such as unfixed copper and coloured acrylic screens to explore how time and labour inscribe themselves on both surfaces and bodies. Drawing on both traditional techniques and ephemeral processes like oxidation and erosion, the artist considers the ways in which materials can register memory and loss, challenging the fixity of colonial narratives and institutional frameworks.
