‘Self-portrait’ was first exhibited in Lucas Davidson’s 2013 solo show ‘limbo‘. This mesmerising work was made by separating the photographic emulsion from its paper backing so that the final video documents a seemingly liquid image of the artist’s body as it circulates, slides and floats in water. Davidson’s intention is to emphasise ‘change’ as the only constant in our lives.
Lucas Davidson has been selected for numerous notable awards including the Digital Portraiture Award at the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra, the New South Wales Visual Arts Fellowship at Artspace, the Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Artists Travel Scholarship at Sydney College of the Arts, the Redlands Konica Minolta Art Prize at the National Art School, and the Josephine Ulrick & Win Schubert Photo Award. He was also nominated as the Australian representative for the international Art Omi residency in New York.
