Lottie Consalvo, ‘Knowledge and the Ghost in the Light’

Lottie Consalvo, ‘Knowledge and the Ghost in the Light’, 2021, acrylic on linen, 122 x 183 cm

$9,800.00 inc GST

‘Knowledge and the Ghost in the Light’ was exhibited in Lottie Consalvo’s 2021 exhibition ‘When I look carefully / I see the nazuna blooming / By the hedge!’. In these startling new works she wrestles with the weight of nature on the human psyche and the weight of the human psyche on nature. She asks us, “Why don’t we walk in the bush at night? Why don’t we swim out on the seas in the dark?” In these abstract paintings and lead sculptures, she unravels our fear that these places might engulf us. She runs towards our neglect of the unknown and the ungovernable.

Lottie is a Melbourne-born, Newcastle-based artist whose practice crosses abstract paintings, video and performance works. Consalvo’s works are held in important collections such as the Maitland Art Gallery, New Castle Art Gallery and Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie. Her recent solo exhibitions include; ‘Somewhere Else’, Maitland Regional Art Gallery (2019); ‘I Tried To Make A Horizon For You’, Casula Powerhouse (2019); ‘In The Remembering’, Heide Museum of Modern Art, (2018). She has been extensively exhibited around Australia, most recently in Goulburn, Newcastle, and Lake Macquarie. She has participated in numerous residency programs across Australia and Germany, and notably selected to participate in a residency with Marina Abramovic for the 30th Kaldor Public Art Project in 2015.
