‘An Arousing Whisper; a gentle touch’, 2021, Jingdezhen porcelain and silk thread, 84 x 42 x 50 cm

$14,000.00 inc GST

Juz Kitson’s ‘An Arousing Whisper; a gentle touch’ is a luscious and audacious free-standing porcelain sculpture that twists with chimera-like vitality. Kitson hand-moulds each element and folds them along the body of the sculpture like scales, petals or fur, appearing to bristle as if in fight or flight. Kitson’s works brew a sensitivity to the fragile and fantastical through her dextrous use of materials, prompting us to acknowledge the sensual entanglements between humans and nature.

While completing her Honours in ceramics at the National Art School, Kitson’s ‘Formations of Silence’ body of work was acquired by the Museum of Old and New Art, Tasmania in 2009. She was then featured in the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Primavera and the Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art. Kitson has been a finalist in numerous major prizes including the Sidney Myer Fund Australian Ceramic Award (2019), The Alice Prize (2018), and the Wynne Prize (2017). Kitson’s work is held in public collections, including the Art Gallery of South Australia, Artbank and RMIT University, as well as in private collections across Australia and Europe.
