August 18, 2024

Peta Clancy’s work ‘Undercurrent #9’ is currently being exhibited in ‘Return to Nature’ at the Monash Gallery of Art from 8.07. – 18.09.22.

The exhibition considers the Australian landscape through the lens of over 40 photographers, from 1870s colonialists to contemporary artists, as a subject that has persisted throughout art history with constantly shifting perspectives and representations from “nature as something to conquer, to something to protect.”

Clancy’s exhibited work features a Boon Wurrung scar tree and explores sites of cultural and environmental significance located in the the Country of Baluk willam of the Woi wurrung and the Nguruk willam of the Boon wurrung , now know as the City of Monash, and their disturbance due to invasion.
