Oliver Abbott’s solo exhibition ‘Processing’ will be on display at Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre from 13.02. – 28.06.26.
The exhibition marks the culmination of Oliver’s time as recipient of the 2025 Tweed Regional Gallery – National Art School Master of Fine Art (Painting) Residency Award. Developed during his residency at the Gallery’s on-site Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio, ‘Processing’ presents a significant new body of work that expands the conceptual and material concerns central to Oliver’s practice.
In this exhibition, Oliver explores how personal and collective histories are constructed through architecture and infrastructure unique to the Tweed region. Tracing his own family history across three generations in the area, the artist revisits local sites and relics as a means of interrogating the reliability of the visual historical record. Rather than seeking clarity or factual certainty, Oliver embraces distortions and absences as generative spaces – moments where fiction and memory intersect.
This exhibition is a Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre initiative – an outcome of the Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio program supported by benefactor Mr Tim Fairfax AC.
