Natasha Walsh in the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Look Magazine

February 14, 2019

Look Magazine has published a feature on Natasha Walsh, exploring the conceptual and material complexity of her practice. Susannah Smith writes: “Changes in state though corrosion and the interaction of elemental pigments and materials form a kind of alchemy of transformation, as they combine and continue to change over time. Layers of paint react with the copper beneath, shifting tone or hue. Walsh creates her own paints, using ground pigments in an attempt to understand these interactions. She works in an ‘instinctual’ process of adding an taking away to build up layer upon layer and capture the warmth and luminosity of the metal in her flesh tones.” Natasha will be undertaking a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts this year as the winner of the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship, after which she will be having a solo show at DMG in December 2019.
