In Paris at the La Cité internationale des arts residency, Meng-Yu Yan has produced a new collection of photographs titled ‘New Monocle’ for Kudos Live: Intimate Circulation, exploring notions of ‘queer haunting’ and mourns the loss of queer spaces. Stunning but bleak visuals tell the story of Le Monocle, a 1930s lesbian club in Montparnasse which has since been re-appropriated into a male-only establishment. Through this series, Meng emphasises the historical importance held in queer spaces, and that their erasure is a reminder of the constant imbalance of queer representation.
