MARION BORGELT ‘Between the Moon and the Stars’ exhibition at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory

March 21, 2019

Marion Borgelt’s ‘Lunar Arc: Gold Eclipse No. 2’ will feature in the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory’s newest exhibition ‘Between the Moon and the Stars’, which opens TONIGHT at 7PM. This exhibition brings together science and art to reveal the influence of the stars, the moon and its phases on human cultures and animal life.

Marion notes that in her Lunar series, “the moon has a powerful allure, brimming with beauty, legend and myth. … As it orbits the earth, the moon seemingly changes appearance due to its position in relation to the earth and sun.” She goes on to describe how the gradually folding forms of her twelve-piece ‘Lunar Arc’ work “call to mind the endless ebb and flow of tides, the continual revolution of universal bodies and the state of perpetual motion.”

‘Between the Moon and the Stars’ is an intriguing showcase that includes a lunar meteorite, ancient Aboriginal astronomical knowledge, the history of stargazing in Australia, and memorable artworks that explore the moon’s primeval pull. The exhibition will be opened this evening by keynote speaker astrophysicist Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith and a space-themed performance by an ensemble from the Darwin Symphony Orchestra. ‘Between the Moon and the Stars’ will continue until 29 March 2020.
