Lucas Davidson has been named a mid-career/established finalist for the 2025 Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Scholarship, one of the most significant and competitive opportunities available to visual arts alumni of the Sydney College of the Arts (SCA). The announcement places Lucas among a select group of accomplished artists recognised for their contribution to contemporary practice and their potential for continued professional growth.
Established in 1997, the Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Scholarship was created to support SCA graduates in undertaking a self-directed program of professional development through travel. It honours the legacy of Madeline Fauvette Loureiro and has become a highly respected platform for emerging, mid-career, and established artists. Lucas, known for his innovative use of photography, video, and installation to explore themes of embodiment, perception, and materiality, joins a cohort of finalists whose work represents some of the most compelling directions in Australian contemporary art. His inclusion reflects both the depth of his practice and the evolving critical recognition of his work within national and international contexts.
The finalists’ work will be presented in the annual Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Scholarship exhibition, which has gained a strong reputation for showcasing ambitious and thought-provoking art. This year’s exhibition will open to the public on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, at SCA’s campus in Callan Park, with the official announcement of the two scholarship recipients – one from the emerging category and one from the mid-career/established category – to be made during the opening event.
