Lucas Davidson has been selected as a finalist in the Bowness Photography Prize 2024 at the Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh) for his work ‘Golden temple’. The photograph was meticulously collaged over the course of a year while Davidson was being treated for cancer with samples of other photographers’ works layered into contrasting gradients. For the artist, his work suggests an internal landscape and a place for the mind to restore in a similar meditation.
Over the last 17 years, the William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize has emerged as an important annual survey of contemporary photographic practice in Australia and one of the most prestigious prizes in the country. MAPh invites artists to submit still photo-based media including analogue and digital photography created over the last year for consideration.
‘Golden temple’ debuted as part of his solo exhibition ‘Picture of Health’ at Dominik Mersch Gallery earlier this year.
