August 23, 2024

Exhibition Opening: THURSDAY 5 September 6-8PM
Exhibition Dates: 05.09. – 06.10.19
Please join us for the opening of Lottie Consalvo’s solo exhibition ‘The Aerial View Of An Anthem’ on Thursday 5 September, where her commanding new works explore the distant self and its parallels to the expanse of the sea. In these works, an almost uncontainable mass of paint sits energetically below purposeful forms, giving a portal-like depth to each canvas.

This exhibition marks an arresting shift away from the horizon line in Lottie’s work, moving towards the space above or beyond it. A feeling of release is made physically apparent through large planes of space, pulsing, unanchored forms, and singular strikethroughs that hint at the memory of the horizon line. An aerial view of the sea asks viewers to let go of familiar coordinates; to re-orient themselves to its slow but relentless sense of time.

Still resistant to easy reference points, Lottie’s painterly abstractions are intuitive and one step removed from any place outside of the self. Inspired by Howard Hodgkin and Rachel Cusk, her works scour the infinite capacity of the mind in order to lend emotional weight to physical marks.
