LOCUST JONES ‘Do You Read Me: Text-based works from the MPRG Collection’ at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery

June 12, 2025

Locust Jones is featured in the group show ‘Do You Read Me: Text-based works from the MPRG Collection’ at the Mornington Peninsular Regional Gallery from 14.06. – 24.08.25. The exhibition explores the power of language in contemporary art, bringing together works from the MPRG Collection that use text – both as material and subject – to communicate poetic, personal, and political ideas, inspired by American artist Bruce Nauman’s influential use of words to reveal deeper truths.

Locust Jones uses text as a raw and urgent tool across his practice, weaving fragmented headlines, personal notations, and media language into a chaotic visual narrative that reflects his deep concern with global political unrest. His scrawled, expressive text – embedded within other imagery – serves as both commentary and catharsis, giving voice to anxiety, outrage, and the overwhelming noise of contemporary life.
