Locust Jones will exhibit his ceramic sculpture ‘Donor Fatigue’ at this year’s Auckland Art Fair, opening on the 23.05.18. The carvings were inspired by drawings from Jones’ sketch book as well as photographs and travel references that he collected on his trip to Mozambique and the site of a mine massacre in Marikana, South Africa. Boldly carved into the surface of the sculpture, the illustrations echo his signature line drawings.
Jones’ sculpture ‘Caribou’ will also be exhibited at the fair. The work is a self-portrait made from stoneware. The hand-moulded, indented surface of the bust makes reference to the artist’s statement of “being joyful in a world torn apart.”
The Auckland Art Fair will be open from Wednesday 23.05. to Sunday 27.05.18.
