Katie West exhibiting in ‘Dissident Assemblies’ group show at KINGS Artist-run

October 3, 2018

Katie West is currently exhibiting in Dissident Assemblies, a group exhibition at KINGS Artist-run in Melbourne that features artists with social and culturally focused practices. Celebrating 15 years of KINGS Artist-run, the exhibition takes on a site-oriented approach, engaging with the physical, archival and administrative infrastructure of the gallery. Katie West is a Yindjibarndi woman who grew up on Noongar Yued boodja. Her installation combines textiles, natural materials and social practice to explore custodianship in still colonised and ecologically compromised contexts.

Dissident Assemblies is insistently plural and a self-reflexive engagement with history and time, on until 20 October. Participating artists include Katie West alongside Sean Dockray with Benjamin Forster, Simone Slee, Makiko Yamamoto, Kim Donaldson, Yuval Rosinger and Lou Hubbard.
