Julian Day new work at the City Recital Hall

August 10, 2019

Julian Day will be presenting his new sound work ‘Living Room’ at the City Recital Hall as part of Extended Play 2019 from 9-10PM on 31 August. This evocative and challenging work is part of his decade-long investigation of shifting sonic energies ‘An Infinity Room (AIR)’, which has involved performances at Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, Café Oto, St Jerome’s Laneways Festival, Vivid and MONA FOMA. “A man sits before an array of identical synthesizers, his poise as concentrated as a Japanese tea master. He places metal weights upon the keys in geometric order, repeating the pattern across each keyboard so that complex harmonic aggregates refract and warp. Listeners sit, lie or wander within the rich vibrational whirlpools. Living Room is a new work for paired synthesizers that instigates a deeply embodied ‘room within a room’.” ‘Living Room’ will thus uniquely reflect the spatial, sonic and social context of City Recital Hall’s Ground Level Foyer.
