Janet Laurence ‘The Palm at the End of the Mind’ at the Johnston Collection, Melbourne

Janet Laurence will be featured in an upcoming exhibition being held at the Johnston Collection in Melbourne, on show from 8 July – 17 September 2019. ‘The Palm at the End of the Mind’ explores Janet’s own creative practices alongside the Johnston Collection – exploring themes of collecting and saving, nature and the environment.

The exhibition endeavours to challenge the conventions of traditional exhibition spaces, as well as relationships to nature and culture, collecting and discovery, and the natural environment. ‘The Palm at the End of the Mind’ is part of the Johnston Collection’s ongoing ‘house of ideas’ project series, in which guest artists are given the opportunity to transform the Fairhall exhibition-house into a site-specific installation space. This unique opportunity allows for an intersection of the contemporary and the historical, inviting the audience to consider tradition through a contemporary lens.
