JANET LAURENCE ‘Earth Canvas’ at The National Museum of Australia

September 29, 2024

Janet Laurence’s work is currently on show at The National Museum of Australia from 26.08. – 30.10.22 as the final destination of the travelling exhibition ‘Earth Canvas’. The exhibition showcases works by leading contemporary creators, developed in response to regenerative farming on properties situated between the Murray and Murrumbidgee rivers in southern New South Wales, and explores each artist’s immersive engagement with the land and their vision for a healthier world.

Regarding her involvement in the project, the artist states: “My work has been evolving slowly, moving between a performative project held onsite at Yabtree West, and a series of exhibition works that trace the complex symbiotic processes that are being nurtured by Rebecca on the farm. The great trees along the river have taken root in my memory and remain the dominant theme throughout the work. These trees for me express hope and habitat.”

‘Earth Canvas’ was developed by regional collaborative Earth Canvas: Art in Ag, curated by Albury Library Museum, and supported by the National Museum of Australia. The project was also assisted by the Australian Government’s Visions of Australia program.
