HELEN PYNOR Artist residency and commission in Perth

December 7, 2018

Helen Pynor is currently finishing a 7 week funded residency hosted by City of Joondalup, Perth. Here, Helen has been exploring the idea of regeneration: at a cellular level, in the lived experience of people recovering from injury, and as a metaphor for renewal of spirit or community. Helen unpacks expanded understandings of the body, the way it regenerates, and our own perceptions that are extended through the experience of rehabilitation and adaption. Throughout this residency, she has engaged with individuals with spinal cord injuries, medical clinicians at Edith Cowan University, SymbioticA and scientists at University of Western Australia, DADAA Fremantle, and others.

In 2019, Helen will undertake a commissioned work based on her research, which will join City of Joondalup’s art collection.
