FILM SCREENING: Joseph Beuys ‘Art as a Weapon’ screening at Dominik Mersch Gallery

June 3, 2021

The Fluxus-Founder would have turned 100 this year

Joseph Beuys needs little introduction. Born in 1921 the German artist, performer and provocateur would have turned 100 this year. To celebrate the life of the legendary founder of the Fluxus movement, Dominik Mersch Gallery and the Goethe-Institut invite you to a screening of the documentary BEUYS – Art as a Weapon with an expert introduction.

BEUYS – Art as a Weapon was directed by award-winning German filmmaker Andres Veiel who is particularly interested in Beuys’ extended concept of art as a social sculpture. The New York Times called it “an exhilarating portrait of a unique truth-teller”.

The film will be introduced by Anthony Bond OAM, former Director Curatorial at the Art Gallery of NSW, and Dr Donna West Brett, Associate Professor of Art History and Curatorial Studies at the University of Sydney.

Free entry with registration. Please note this is an intimate event and capacity is limited.
