Katie West is a Yindjibarndi woman whose practice is underpinned by a captivating meditative quality and strong sense of place. ‘wilayi bangarrii, wanyaarri (go for a walk, listen)’ will exhibit new textile works that consider walking and listening as avenues to connect us with our past, present and future. Naturally dyed with eucalyptus, corymbia and acacia using multiple hot and cool methods, these works speak to the ways we absorb the world around us. Her installation ‘Gently Give Attention’ will also invite people to sit down and create a blend of tea using hot water waiting in thermoses, reusable tea infusers, cups, and various herbs gathered by the artist.

After winning the DMG/VCA Award in 2017, West has had an incredible catalogue of shows. Just this year, she has been featured in Healing Practices, curated by Rachel Ciesla at Bundoora Homestead, and has recently realised a solo show at TarraWarra Museum of Art alongside a parallel show by Tracey Moffat. Currently, she is featured in the group show Zephyr at Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre, and has been selected for Installation Contemporary at Sydney Contemporary, and has an upcoming show at Monash Gallery of Art titled Strangers and Those That We Hold Dear.
