As we welcome the new year, Dominik Mersch Gallery is delighted to showcase exceptional new artworks by Antonia Perricone. The artist’s creations are imbued with the memory of mark-making. Her artistic journey explores themes of connection, liberation, and identity, layering emotional and cultural narratives onto the canvas. Through the repetitive nature of her painting practice, she embarks on a ritualistic quest for order amidst disorder, resulting in works that bear witness to the enduring labor and complex legacy inherited from her Sicilian family, who immigrated to Australia after the collapse of their hometown, Poggioreale.

This cyclical process of recollection enriches her creative output, imbuing it with depth and intention. Her work evolves into a palimpsest of personal experience and growth, an instinctive mode of communication that invites viewers to connect with her art and reflect on their own experiences. Her marks, built and removed by memory, become layered records tracing the emotional landscape and the distorted truth of reminiscence. In this collection, you will witness how Antonia uses her body to create impactful movements and marks across her large-scale works, which stand as a testament to her legacy.

This exhibition encourages you to reflect on your own memories, while embracing growth in the coming year.

“Emotions, reactions, and thoughts flow through my body and come to shape the final work. In this way, the paintings become a testament to the stories held within me and allow my body to communicate in a language that exists beyond words”

Antonia Perricone
