Dominik Mersch Gallery is proud to celebrate its 15 Year Anniversary with a landmark survey solo exhibition of the Belgium-born, Mexico-based artist, Francis Alÿs. ‘Looking Up’ is an exceptional and rare presentation of works across painting, mixed media, and performance art from the private collections of John Kaldor AO and Naomi Milgrom AC.

Alÿs’ work emerges in the interdisciplinary space of art, architecture, and social practice as he employs metaphorical techniques to highlight geopolitical and social realities, and the tensions between individual memory and collective mythology. He commonly enacts ‘paseos’ –  walks that resist the subjection of common space – and is informed by intense observations of, and engagements with, both moments in everyday life and the social, cultural and economic fabric of specific locations described by the artist as “a sort of discursive argument composed of episodes, metaphors, or parabels.”
