‘Landscape and Psyche’ is a group show that reveals the symbiosis between the landscape and the human mind. Each artist moves beyond a literal representation of their chosen terrain to explore the landscape’s potential as a courier for the undiscovered parts of inner life, considering how the body and psyche intersect with nature, culture, and the passing of time to transform one’s experience of place.

Just as poets use words to allude to experiences that exist beyond language, artists harness visual imagery as a vehicle for that which cannot be seen by the human eye: emotions, memories, thoughts and history. Through varied media and practices, the artists conduct a mental and physical enquiry into the landscape genre and an increasingly abstract understanding of this subject matter begins to emerge; a push and pull of light and dark, recollections and immediate environments, strength and fragility, beauty and disquiet.

The show focusses on the intersecting psychological lenses through which one can perceive and understand our surrounding environments and provides the viewer with an opportunity for introspection regarding their relationship with the land: both internal and external.

‘Landscape and Psyche’ features works by John Beard, Peta Clancy, Ellen Dahl, James Gardiner, Liam Garstang, Clément Cogitore, Giacomo Costa, Elger Esser, Piers Greville, Tim Johnson, Philip Wolfhagen and Anne Zahalka.
