Clemens Krauss’ paintings teeter between abstraction and figuration through the use of an idiosyncratic impasto mode. His figures are thickly applied with oil paint and placed within ambiguous interactions and vast negative spaces. The artist investigates the vulnerabilities of the individual, looking with a deeply personal yet clinical gaze at the psychological currents of society. It is not by accident that he has completed studies in both Fine Arts and Medicine, and that his practice crosses painting, video and psychoanalysis.
