Desmond Lazaro ‘In one drop of water’ at the Art Gallery of NSW

July 13, 2019

Desmond Lazaro is currently featured at the Art Gallery of New South Wales as part of their exhibition ‘In one drop of water’. The exhibition draws on rich and diverse works of art which explore the poetic, symbolic and social significance of water in Asian art. The exhibition features historical ceramics, paintings, lacquer and woodblock prints from across Asia, alongside a collection of contemporary works.
Featured in the exhibition is Desmond’s newly commissioned panting titled ‘The Sea of Untold Stories II’. He describes the work as a meditation on grief and loss; drawing on his own personal experiences as well as stories of the unnamed migrants who cross oceans, deserts and continents, risking their lives in order to seek a better life. This large scale work is as captivating visually as it is emotionally, connecting us all through the shared experience of loss and, ultimately, hope.

The exhibition is currently on show and will remain in the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Lower Asian Gallery until December 2020.
