CLAUDIA TERSTAPPEN Barcelona studio update

In this video from her studio in Barcelona, Claudia Terstappen reveals what she has been working on in isolation. Her practice crosses ceramics, woodcut drawings and photographs that are intuitively connected through form and colour. These artworks navigate memories of place, where the repeated patterns of Spanish roof tiles or the vivid colours of lichen in Northern Australia are reinvented across many mediums. At the moment, Claudia is focusing on carving woodcuts in response to the sculptures that lay dormant around her studio. ⠀

“Because of coronavirus, I’m not able to go to the ceramics studio, which is in a different part of Barcelona. … I had a stack of plywood sheets left and I thought that I could continue with my woodcuts. I’m not interested in using the woodcut for printing, but looking at it as a work by itself. I’m trying to generate a dialogue between the woodcuts and the ceramics …”
