CATHERINE O’DONNELL AND LOCUST JONES Finalists in the Mosman Art Prize

Catherine O’Donnell and Locust Jones have been selected as finalists in the 2025 Mosman Art Prize – Australia’s most prestigious and longest-running painting award. Their finalist works will be on show at Mosman Art Gallery from 22.08. – 2.11.25.

Established in 1947, the Mosman Art Prize has played a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of contemporary Australian painting. Now in its 78th year, the prize is recognised not only for its rich history, but also for its continuing relevance in showcasing bold, innovative, and thought-provoking works. It offers a platform for artists to explore themes of identity, place, politics, and the evolving spirit of our time.

Both O’Donnell and Jones are known for their distinctive approaches to contemporary art-making. Catherine O’Donnell uses meticulous draftsmanship and architectural detail to reflect on the social and cultural fabric of suburban life. Her work explores the poetics of the everyday, often drawing attention to overlooked spaces and structures with striking clarity and care. Locust Jones presents dynamic and immersive visual narratives, often responding directly to global media, conflict, and socio-political unrest. His works are driven by urgency and a raw, gestural energy that captures the tension and chaos of contemporary life.

As part of the prize, the winning artwork will be acquired by Mosman Council to join the prestigious Mosman Art Collection, which has become an evolving timeline of painting in Australia.
