Anne Zahalka The Fate of Things exhibition at the Sydney Jewish Museum

October 26, 2018

Anne Zahalka features in The Fate of Things: Memory Objects and Art alongside Sylvia Griffin at the Sydney Jewish Museum. In this exhibition, both Anne and Sylvia remembers their family’s Holocaust experiences through inherited objects, remnants and relics. They have undertaken a process of self-discovery by imbuing tangible symbols of family history with personal interpretations of second-hand traumatic memories. Through video, photography, assemblage, sculpture and textiles, the artists attempt to connect with the lost family members they never met – particularly their female predecessors – to trace who they are today and how their characters have been formed over time. The exhibition will open 2 November and continue until 28 February 2019.
