Anne Zahalka’s iconic photograph ‘The Bathers’ (1989) has been immortalised as an Australia Post stamp, forming part of the first photography stamp issue. The work reimagines Charles Meere’s 1940 painting ‘Australian Beach Pattern’, challenging its Anglo-centric vision to reflect the rich cultural diversity of contemporary Australia.
The issue also features photographs from David Moore, the first Australian photojournalist to work for international picture magazines, and Mervyn Bishop, Australia’s first Indigenous professional photographer.
The exclusive stamp series is available at Australia Post stores and online until 1 October 2026.
