ANNE ZAHALKA Finalist in the King’s School Art Prize

June 11, 2025

Anne Zahalka has been selected as a finalist in the King’s School Art Prize 2025 for her photographic work ‘Cast aways’. The finalist works will be on display from 12.06. – 14.06.25 at Horrocks Hall. This is an annual acquisitive prize established in 1994 which recognises excellence in contemporary Australian art.

Anne’s selected work digitally reworks Australian dioramas to imagine alternative futures. By reintroducing original creators and acknowledging First Nations perspectives, colonisation, and climate change, she reframes these displays to reflect the shifting realities of the Anthropocene. Anne Zahalka has long explored historical museum dioramas: 19th-century displays that depicted idealised, static views of nature and humanity. Her work disrupts these scenes to question fixed truths and highlight our changing relationship with the environment.
