ANNE ZAHALKA ‘Festival Photo La Gacilly’ in La Gacilly, France

June 27, 2025

An enlarged installation of Anne Zahlka’s ‘The Mallee’ will be on show in the Festival Photo La Gacilly from 21.06. – 03.11.24 as a major international-focused photography festival that encompasses the gardens surrounding La Gacilly in Southern Brittany, France. Festival Photo La Gacilly is Europe’s largest photography festival: spanning 7 kilometres, divided into a garden and a city route, with approximately 1,500 photographs integrated into the public space.

Anne’s featured work digitally disrupts archival photographs of Australian habitat displays and dioramas from natural history museums, subverting their fixed narratives and reflecting on the changing relationship between people and the natural world. Working with conservationists, curators and photographers in the field of birds, bats, marsupials, mammals and amphibians, Zahalka has identified original habitat locations and incorporated new data to set out alternative and contemporary ways to view these landscapes.
